A Surprise Beach Couple Session After Tropical Storm Arthur
As a beach photographer, I've learned that Mother Nature always has the final say. Some sessions come together effortlessly, while others require patience, flexibility, and a little faith. Jared and Kylie's beach session was definitely one of those stories.
They contacted me at the last minute after falling in love with another one of my favorite couple sessions featuring LaBryan and Runyell. To this day, that session remains one of the most requested galleries on my website, and I completely understand why.
I believe several things made that session so memorable. First, it was photographed during the daytime in April when the temperatures were comfortable, the humidity was low, and the light was absolutely beautiful. Second, they chose the perfect wardrobe. As photographers, we're always chasing great light and beautiful locations, but clothing plays a huge role as well. Pensacola Beach offers soft white sand, crystal-clear aqua water, and brilliant blue skies. White clothing complements that scenery perfectly, especially against darker skin tones, creating a timeless, clean, and elegant look. While white is my personal favorite for beach portraits, every session is unique. Skin tone, lighting, weather, and even the season all influence the final look of your photographs.
Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Arthur had other plans for Jared and Kylie's session.
We postponed their shoot several times as we watched the weather forecast, hoping for a break in the rain and heavy winds. Since they were only visiting the Gulf Coast for a short time, we were quickly running out of options. Finally, on the Sunday before they had to head home, the skies cleared just enough for us to give it a try.
The sun made its appearance around 3:00 in the afternoon, but the wind never let up. It was one of those beach days where you could barely keep your hair in place. Note to self: always remind couples to bring a few hair ties or clips—just in case!
As if the wind wasn't enough, the heat was unbelievable. We didn't know it at the time, but it marked the beginning of one of the hottest stretches of weather we'd experience all year. By the end of the session, we were all hot, sweaty, and ready for some air conditioning.
But here's the amazing thing about photography.
Sometimes the conditions that seem less than perfect produce incredible images. Jared and Kylie never stopped smiling, laughing, or enjoying each other's company. They embraced every moment together, and their love naturally came through in every photograph. The beach looked absolutely magnificent after the storm, with vibrant water, dramatic skies, and beautiful light that made the entire evening feel worth the wait.
That's one of my favorite things about photographing couples. I get to focus on connection, genuine emotion, and those little candid moments that tell a real love story. Every couple brings their own personality, and every session becomes a unique adventure.
Jared and Kylie, thank you for trusting me, being flexible through the weather delays, and making the very best of a hot, windy afternoon. Your session is proof that sometimes the best photographs come after the storm.
I wish you both nothing but the very best as you begin this exciting new chapter together. Kylie, I absolutely loved your engagement ring—it was stunning! When the big day arrives, be sure to tag me in your wedding photos. Even better, I hope you'll invite me back to capture your portraits after you say "I do." It would be an honor to photograph another beautiful milestone in your love story.
