A Coastal Couples Session at Navarre Beach
MacKenzie & Matt
---
MacKenzie and Matt hired me for a couples session at Navarre Beach —a location I hadn’t photographed at in a while. Most of my sessions take place at Pensacola Beach, but they had something different in mind, and I was all for it.
We were expecting bad weather that day, but as soon as I arrived, the sun was shining and the beach was packed. Navarre has always been a special place for me—I used to bring my kids here all the time when they were little. It’s typically quieter, incredibly clean, and known for its family-friendly atmosphere with lifeguards and even a nearby waterpark. I actually photographed a wedding here last year, so it felt good to be back.
The first thing I did was scout the area. MacKenzie and Matt wanted photos by the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, but it was crowded—really crowded. I knew I didn’t want to spend hours editing people out of the background, so I explored a bit further east and found some much quieter spots that would work perfectly.
We met about a mile away from the pier, where they had easy beach access. A small path led us right down to the water, and that’s where we began. Like most couples, they were a little nervous at first—but it didn’t take long. I guided them through a few poses, and before we knew it, everything just clicked. MacKenzie has the most beautiful smile, and Matt was completely tuned in to her—they were effortless together. At that point, I just stepped back and let them be, capturing the natural connection between them as they moved and laughed in front of my lens.
The weather kept things interesting. What started as a bright, sunny afternoon slowly shifted as clouds rolled in and softened the light—honestly, a photographer’s dream. You’ll see that contrast throughout their gallery: vibrant blue skies in some shots, and soft, moody tones in others.
The water, though, had a mind of its own. It was rough and moving fast, which made me a little cautious when we stepped in for a few shots. At one point, the waves were strong enough that people nearby were actually surfing. It definitely kept things exciting.
As the session wound down, we made our way back toward the pier and grabbed a few final images while waiting for sunset—ending the session right where it all began.
