A Beautiful Evening on Pensacola Beach
Some photography sessions just leave you smiling the entire drive home, and the Kelberlau family's session was definitely one of them.
I always enjoy photographing families, but there's something especially special about working with an immediate family. With a smaller group, I have the opportunity to slow down, get to know everyone, and capture the genuine relationships that make each family unique. By the end of the evening, it felt like we were simply enjoying a walk on the beach together.
My favorite part of the session? Without a doubt, three-year-old Karson.
Karson had plenty to say from the moment we met, and he completely stole my heart. We spent part of the evening searching for seashells together, talking about everything we could find along the shoreline. Those little moments are often the ones that create the most authentic smiles and the sweetest photographs. Instead of asking children to pose, I love letting them explore, play, and simply be themselves.
Heather did an amazing job coordinating everyone's outfits. I believe this was the first family I've photographed that chose to wear black, and I absolutely loved the look. Against the soft white sand and the beautiful Gulf waters, the black clothing created stunning contrast while giving the portraits a timeless, elegant feel. It was simple, classic, and absolutely perfect.
As the sun began to set over Pensacola Beach, the light became soft and golden—the kind of light photographers dream about. Combined with this wonderful family's easygoing personalities, it made for an evening filled with genuine laughter, hugs, and memories that I'm so grateful to have captured.
