One of the questions every photographer asks themselves is surprisingly simple:

"How much should I charge, and how many images should my clients receive?"

There isn't one right answer.

If you search Google for photographers in the Pensacola area, you'll quickly discover that every business has a different approach. Some photographers charge $500 to $700 and include every edited image from the session. Others may charge around $300, but only include 20 professionally edited photographs, with additional images available for purchase.

After years behind the camera, I've chosen a path somewhere in the middle.

I Take...A Lot of Pictures

If you ask my photographer friends, they'll probably tell you I take way too many photographs.

They're probably right.

(Let's just say I really like my shutter button!)

But here's my reasoning.

I'm human, too.

As photographers, we're taught that it's our job to select the "best" images from a session. We look for perfect smiles, perfect focus, perfect poses, and perfect lighting.

But what is "perfect?"

How do I know which expression a mother will treasure twenty years from now?

Maybe she'll love the photograph where her daughter is laughing so hard she can barely stand.

Or maybe she'll choose the quiet portrait where her little girl is looking thoughtfully toward the ocean.

Both tell a story.

Both create memories.

I know this because I'm a parent.

I have two children—one son and one daughter.

My daughter smiled almost all the time. That's exactly how I remember her growing up.

My son, however, wasn't the biggest fan of smiling for photographs. His serious expressions were simply part of who he was. When I look back at our family photographs, I don't want every image to show a forced grin. I want to remember him exactly as he was.

That's why I struggle with delivering only a handful of images.

Every family has moments worth remembering.

Technology Helps...But It Doesn't Do My Job

Photography has changed dramatically over the last few years.

Artificial intelligence has become an incredible tool for photographers. Today's software can quickly identify the sharpest photographs, detect whether everyone's eyes are open, and help eliminate duplicates.

It's a wonderful time saver.

But here's the funny part.

Sometimes it isn't much help at all.

Imagine photographing a family session and coming home with 1,200 images.

Years ago, perhaps only a few hundred would make the final cut.

Today?

AI might tell me that 1,138 of those photographs are perfectly sharp, everyone's eyes are open, and they're all technically excellent.

Now the hard work begins.

Because the computer can't tell me which hug means the most.

It can't recognize the glance between grandparents.

It doesn't know when siblings burst into genuine laughter.

It doesn't understand the little moments that become lifelong memories.

Only people can do that.

Why I Edit So Many Images

I never want to miss the moment when everyone is smiling.

Or laughing.

Or hugging.

Or simply enjoying being together.

So yes...

I probably press the shutter button more than I should.

And honestly?

That's my excuse—and I'm sticking to it.

After every session, I carefully review hundreds, sometimes thousands, of photographs before individually editing the images I believe your family will love.

Every photograph is adjusted for exposure, color, white balance, composition, and consistency to match my signature bright, clean, and timeless editing style.

It's a labor of love.

Why My Sessions Include 60 High-Resolution Downloads

This is the question I receive most often.

"Why can't I download every image in my gallery?"

The answer is simple.

Editing photographs takes far longer than taking them.

A typical session may last around an hour, but the work continues long after the camera is packed away. Reviewing, selecting, editing, organizing, uploading, and preparing your gallery requires many additional hours.

To keep my sessions affordable while still delivering a beautiful collection of photographs, each session includes 60 high-resolution digital downloads.

For families who fall in love with every image—and many do—I also offer a Full Gallery Upgrade, allowing you to purchase your entire edited gallery without having to choose favorites.

I believe it's a fair balance.

It allows me to continue providing affordable photography while giving every family the opportunity to own every memory if they choose.

High-Resolution Images vs. Web Images: What's the Difference?

This is another question I hear all the time.

High-Resolution Images

High-resolution images are your master files.

These are the photographs you'll want to save forever.

They're designed for:

  1. Printing large wall portraits
  2. Albums
  3. Canvas prints
  4. Holiday cards
  5. Graduation announcements
  6. Framing
  7. Long-term storage

Always download these files to your computer and make at least one backup on an external hard drive or cloud storage service.

Think of these as your family's digital negatives.

Web-Size Images

Web images are much smaller files.

They're designed specifically for:

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Email
  • Text messages
  • Online sharing

Because they're smaller, they upload faster and look great on phones, tablets, and computer screens.

However, they're not intended for large professional prints. Enlarging a web-size image often results in reduced detail and lower print quality.

Why I Recommend Ordering Through My Print Shop

Could you print your photographs somewhere else?

Absolutely.

But here's what I tell every client.

The photographs you see in your gallery have been professionally color calibrated and edited using a professional workflow. My Print Shop works with professional photo laboratories that are carefully calibrated to reproduce those colors accurately.

Many discount retailers use automated printing systems that adjust brightness, contrast, and color without anyone asking. The result may look darker, brighter, cooler, or warmer than the image you approved in your gallery.

When you order through my Print Shop, you're receiving professional-quality prints, premium papers, and products that are designed to preserve your family's memories for generations.

The difference really is noticeable.

More Than Just Pictures

Photography isn't simply about taking photographs.

It's about preserving moments that can never be recreated.

The hugs.

The laughter.

The quiet smiles.

The expressions that remind you exactly who your children were at this stage of life.

Those moments deserve to be remembered.

I'm honored every time a family trusts me to preserve them, and I'll continue pressing the shutter button one too many times—because sometimes the very next click becomes the photograph you'll treasure forever.
